Ponyo is a baby goldfish princess that one day is rescued by a human boy. Ponyo falls in love with the boy and wills herself into becoming a human. Her transformation and journey to the shore cause the tides to rise dramatically. She and the boy decide to stay together, and Ponyo is granted her wish of becoming a human being, instead of a magical fish.
